Healthy Avocado Spread

Calling all avocado lovers! There's a new way to elevate your breakfast, dinner, or next party snack—the Avocado Za'atar Spread.

Why stick to just guacamole? This blend of creamy avocado, nutty tahini, fresh lemon, and the aromatic spice of za'atar adds variety and a wow factor to your table.

Wondering, "What is Za'atar?"

Here's the scoop: Za'atar is a popular Middle Eastern spice mix, typically made with dried thyme, sesame seeds, sumac, and salt.

Its unique flavor—a mix of earthy, nutty, and citrusy notes—makes it the perfect companion to avocado. It not only adds depth but also lends an extraordinary touch that sets this spread apart from the rest.

Still sticking with guacamole, or ready to try something new? 😊

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe avocados

  • 3 tbsp tahini

  • 3 tbsp lemon juice

  • ½ garlic clove

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1–2 tsp za'atar

  • Optional: Marinated chickpeas and basil for garnish

  • Servings: About 2

  • Effort: Low Ready in just 5 minutes with a handful of ingredients—perfect for everyday use or as a last-minute dip.

  • Nutritional Value: Strong Avocado provides healthy fats, while tahini is rich in calcium and protein.

  • Michaela's Opinion: This isn’t just a delicious addition to bread or veggies; it’s also a standout side dish for grilled vegetables or meat.

Instruction:

1) Halve the avocados, remove the pits, and scoop out the flesh with a spoon. Place it in a blender.

2) Add tahini, freshly squeezed lemon juice, garlic, and spices to the avocado.

3) Blend until smooth. Alternatively, you can mash the mixture with a fork for a chunkier texture.

4) Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.

5) Transfer the spread to a bowl, sprinkle with a pinch of za'atar, and optionally drizzle with a little olive oil. Or, as shown here: serve on a slice of good bread with your favorite toppings.

  • Michaela's Tip: Raw garlic can be very intense. Start with a small amount and adjust gradually for balance. Alternatively, sauté the garlic briefly in olive oil to mellow its flavor.
